Name: Irini Leondaraki
Lives in: Athens, Greece
From: I was born and grew up in Athens.
Job: Along with my sister, I run a jewelry workshop and retail store called Leondarakis in Syntagma.
The store is three generations old and was started by my grandfather in Alexandria, Egypt in the 1920s. My father continued it in Athens in the 1960s, and my sister and I have been running it since 1995.
My sister is the designer, and I am the business manager.
Tell us your first three jobs (ever!): I studied Archeology and History of Art at the University of Athens so my first jobs were working in excavations. It is very hard working under the sun and a little bit boring!
I speak three languages and that allowed me to work at some athletic events as my next jobs. And one summer I worked in a bar during summer holidays on the island of Serifos in the Cyclades.
Zodiac sign?: Sagittarius
What do you love about Greece: I love the open air cinemas (which is one of my favorite things to do during summer). I like that you can meet up with friends whenever you want, and there are so many things to do in the city: bars, restaurants, cinema, theatre, museums etc, all really in a short distance.. Athens was not like that 20 years ago! Greece is a small country and offers many options to travel-we have mountains like Pelion and so many islands to choose from. The Cyclades Islands are some of the most unique places to be in the whole world!
Tell us something most people don’t know about you: If I didn’t work in the family business, I’d like to work behind the camera in the movie business. 🙂
